I grew up in Arlington, Virginia about 3 miles from Washington, DC. Not far from the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery. Yes, people also LIVE in Arlington.

I went to school at Wakefield High School, Northern Virginia Community College, Virginia Tech, and Southern Methodist University.

During the Viet-Nam war, the US Air Force trained me in Mississippi, then sent me to a couple of foreign locations including Arkansas and South Korea where I was a radio repairman.

Shell Oil Co. recruited me out for Virginia Tech and brought me to Houston where my wife, 2 kids, and I have lived since 1977.
At Shell, then later at Compaq Computer Corp and ChevronTexaco, I built, merged and supported large computer networks.
Sherril and I met while stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base. While I am from near Washington DC, Sherril is from Oregon and Washington state. Somehow, we found each other in Arkansas. My kids have both grown up in the Alief suburb of Houston and are now grown.

I've done quite a bit of research on our family. It appears that the first Hanson immigrated after being a British soldier in Ireland in the mid-1700's. He brought his Irish wife through the port of Baltimore, then migrated down the Shenandoah Valley to near Roanoke, then across the mountains to Fincastle, VA. They then crossed the mountain to the Greenbrier area of what is now West Virginia, then followed the Greenbrier River, New River, and Kanawha river trail to the Kanawha Valley and what is now Charleston, WV. They settled in West Virginia before the Revolution and fought in the war.

My Mother's side, the Opper family, came from Germany about 100 years later in 1856 and settled near Peoria, Illinois. Most of them are there, still. Before coming to America, Carl Michael Opper served in Africa and France under Napoleon III, then participated in a revolution to make Germany a republic. When defeated by Prussia, he was forced to leave his native country.

After 30 years in Houston, TX we've recenty moved to the country where I have a large hobby workshop with an assortment of hand tools, table saw, grinder, jointer, and a Shopsmith combination table saw, lathe, bandsaw, disc sander, boring machine, and drillpress with lots of accessories.

Next steps are to arrange all my tools in their planned resting places in the the workshop.
